Tampa Bay rent burden by ZIP area (ZCTA), 2020-2024
Richard Cieplechowicz compiled this 132-ZCTA table for Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando counties. It combines housing tenure, median gross rent, median household income and renter cost-burden estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau's ACS 2020-2024 five-year release.
What the measure means
“Rent burdened” means an estimated renter household pays at least 30% of its income in gross rent, including utilities. “Severely rent burdened” uses at least 50%. The denominator excludes the ACS “not computed” category. The table also includes a ZIP-level median gross-rent-to-median-income ratio, which is a rough comparison of two separate medians, not the burden of a typical individual household.

Source and method
ACS tables B01003, B01002, B19013, B25064, B25077, B25003, B25002 and B25070 were retrieved through Census Reporter. The ZCTA-to-county assignment uses the 2020 Census relationship file and the county with the largest land-area overlap; only ZCTAs with at least 500 residents are included. Both the 30%-plus and 50%-plus percentages use B25070 and exclude “not computed.” A flag marks fewer than 300 renter units as a caution for small samples.

Limits
These are survey estimates with margins of error, not an address-level census or current rent listings. ZCTAs only approximate USPS ZIPs, county assignment is approximate near boundaries, and the 2020-2024 values are a five-year period, not 2024-only figures. Blank cells mean no usable published estimate. Do not interpret close differences as precise without the relevant margins of error.
